The Script Editor lacks any kind of way of telling what line you are on, and what character you are at on that line. Also, compilers which support syntax checking need some way to report syntax errors, and a popup is unpleasant and annoying.

Of course, the script editor needs many overhauls, but this could be a simple solution. I recommend a status bar, very much like GameMaker versions 7 and prior. GameMaker 8 introduces a second status bar just for the syntax error message.

This was applied a while ago. Can't remember exactly which revision, but it exists and is working in r431.
